I've been missing in action for a long time. It's mostly because I had very little to say and was uninspired to post anything. In my last post so long ago, I eluded to moving on both physically and professionally. I moved into my own apartment just outside of Boston and I'm loving it. Besides the constant clutter around me, I'm in heaven. My more roommates knocking on my door while I'm sleeping or landlady's grandchildren running overhead.
Now...if I could just get this clutter under control. It's amazing how much stuff you can accumulate over 10 years of living on your own. I'm determined to get this mess somewhat under control before the end of February. That's the goal.
I guess what contributes to the clutter is my addiction to stashing yarn, shiny kitchen items and the cutest products in my new obsession of rubber stamping. I found a great group of friends at Spark Craft Studios in Cambridge. It started off with taking a class in sock knitting. Spark has studio and retail space dedicated to crafting of all kinds from knitting, crochet, jewelery making, sewing and card making. I also took a few jewelry classes here and there, but what really peaked my interest was rubber stamping. Spark has a great bunch of classes dedicated to card making using rubber stamps. My addiction has become so bad that I've started buying doubles of things I already have...and...I became an instructor in card making. I am not an expert by any means. I'm still learning a lot of things, but I enjoy spreading my obsession around to others. I've got the basics down and can demonstrate them. I found a wonderful group of people at Spark to hand out with occasionally who understand my obsession. We enable each other a little too much.
I've missed taking card classes since I became a instructor at Spark. So this week I ventured out to Ink About It in Westford to take an A*Muse class from the fabulous Jenn Shurkus, otherwise known as {creative chick}. I was only planning on taking her Wednesday night class, but I had so much fun I went back on Thursday night too. Her designs are so inspiring. I won't post the cards that I made here because they are her creations, but trust me...so very cute.
What else have I been up to lately? I found a new job in August 2006 which I love. I'm an oncology nurse. It's always something that I wanted to do. I've been working against cancer since I graduated from college over ten years ago. First it was bench research and I got bored talking to machines all day. Then I moved onto clinical research where I found that I loved interacting with patients. That job inspired me to go back to school and become a nurse. I love my job and feel that it's an honor to work with this population. There are always those sad stories you hear about someone not making it, but there are those occasions when miracles really do happen. It makes the effort and heartache worthwhile.
Anyway...my goal was to get at least one post out this month. Maybe next month there will be two? LOL. Until then...I wish everyone health and happiness.
